A magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, presided over by Chief Magistrate F.N. Amanze, has remanded Promise Sydney, in prison custody for purportedly raping his wife’s niece for a period of nine years.

Sydney was dragged before the Magistrate Court by the Abuloma Police division as a result of a report by a non government organisation, Protect the girl child initiative.

When the charges were read, Amanze, rejected the first charge of indecent assault brought by the police against the accused person in order that the original charge of rape be produced before the continuation of the matter.

The matter was adjourned to August 16, 2018, for mention and advise from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
