The Rivers State Police Command has swiftly moved to quell widespread panic, firmly debunking a viral video circulating on social media that falsely claimed an attack by Fulani herdsmen in the state.
The Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, ANIPR, issued a press release on Tuesday, unequivocally stating that the claims were “entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic among the public.”
According to the official statement, the Command has received “no incidents or reports of Fulani herdsmen attacks in any part of Rivers State.” The fabricated narrative, which alleged that Ijaw youths had repelled the attackers, was condemned as a deliberate attempt by “mischief makers” to undermine the current prevailing peace and stability within the state.
The Police Command strongly urged the public to disregard the misinformation and exercise extreme restraint in sharing unverified content, emphasizing that such actions could spark unnecessary tension and damage the state’s hard-earned reputation.
Under the leadership of CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, the Command affirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property. It assured residents that robust security measures are already in place, including the deployment of operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads, working in synergy with other security agencies.
The Command concluded by appealing to the public to remain calm, vigilant, and dedicated to transparent and accountable policing, advising citizens to always verify information through official channels before disseminating it.
