FRSC Mobile Court Convicts 36 Traffic Offenders in Rivers State

Port Harcourt, Nigeria — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Sector Command, has convicted 36 traffic offenders for various road traffic violations following a mobile court exercise conducted on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

The exercise, presided over by His Worship Lilian M. Awuse, ESQ, utilized fines and mandatory safety education as penalties. This continuous enforcement effort is part of the Corps’ strategy to enhance road safety and compliance with traffic regulations in the state, according to Amarachi C-Ekwere, the State Public Education Officer.

Fines Imposed for Corruption and Overloading

The mobile court imposed specific fines for various infractions, sending a clear message against non-compliance and corruption.

Out of the 36 convicted offenders:

  • 11 persons were fined ₦10,000 each for attempting to corrupt FRSC operatives on duty.
  • Nine offenders were fined ₦10,000 each for being found guilty of overloading.

Additionally, the court imposed fines totaling ₦80,000 for driver’s license violations. Sixteen other offenders received different penalties for issues including seat belt violations, faulty lights and caution signs, worn-out tyres, cracked windshields, passenger manifest violations, and failure to install speed limiters. Only one defendant was cautioned and discharged after due sensitization by the court.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh, emphasized that the mobile court serves as a firm reminder that traffic laws must be respected and that violators will be held accountable. He reiterated the Corps’ commitment to ensuring safer roads and reducing crashes caused by human error.
