A member of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Ipalibo Sogules, escaped assassination attempt last night around 11:00 pm when yet to be identified gun men invaded his residential and office premises simultaneously, using improvised explosive devices to blow up structures and shooting sporadically.
Experts believe the explosives were allegedly meant to draw him out into the open so as to make him an easy target for the gun men to finish him off but luckily he did not respond according to their script.
Meanwhile, it is not clear yet if the attacks at his house and office were related but observers believe they are politically motivated and coordinated by the same person or persons.
Dr. Sogules who is a one time director of the state microfinance agency is from Bakana in Degema Local Government Area and currently lives Off Odili Road, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
As at press time, the crime has been reported to the police and investigation is ongoing.
In a related development, another member of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State, Christian Ikiroma from Tombia in Degema Local Government Area, also escaped death by the whiskers when yet to be identified gun men attempted to blow up his home with IEDs at Rumuolumeni, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.of the State.
Luckily the impact of the explosive was not so devastating and nobody was hurt.
Unfortunately, the assassins escaped before security men could respond to distress calls by the Ikiroma family.
