Abuja, Nigeria — In a major victory for law enforcement, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have killed three notorious kidnapping kingpins in a fierce gun battle and rescued kidnap victims. The command also announced significant successes against robbery and drug syndicates.
During a briefing at the Command headquarters on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, described the operation as a testament to the police’s resilience. The climax of the operation occurred on September 18, when operatives stormed a kidnappers’ hideout in Zinda Forest, near the Nigerian Army Estate, Kurudu.
The raid resulted in a fierce shootout that led to the death of the gang leader, Abdullahi Umar (alias Duna), and his lieutenants, Buba Ahmadi (Killer) and Habi Sule (Mai-Kudi). Police recovered two AK-49 rifles, two magazines with seven rounds of ammunition, and other items from the criminals.
Foiling a Planned Abduction
CP Adewale disclosed that the gang was responsible for multiple abductions in Guzape, Karu, Kurudu, and Nasarawa. The successful raid also foiled the gang’s plan to abduct a resident of the Federal Housing Estate in Karu.
The police commissioner also detailed a separate incident where a vigilante, Bako Pwaza, was killed while preventing an abduction. CP Adewale paid tribute to the fallen hero and assured residents that intelligence-driven patrols and joint operations with the military, DSS, hunters, and vigilantes would continue to ensure the safety and well-being of the FCT.
