20-year-old in court for stealing motorcycle

An Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s’ Court on Monday arraigned a 20-year-old man, Muyideen Olagunju, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N100,000.

Olagunju, who lives at No. 8, Miliki St., Mushin, Lagos, is facing a 2-count-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 13, at about 8.00p.m. at Idi-Oro, Lagos.

Perezi also said the accused stole a Bajaj motorcycle belonging to the complainant, Ibrahim Idris.

He said that the case was reported by the complainant who alleged that he was robbed of his motorcycle by the accused and his accomplice who is still at large.

“The accused was later apprehended by the tracking team of the Nigeria Police, led by Insp. Idris Adamu, who went to the said area and arrested the accused with the motorcycle,” he said.

The offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Layinka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She then adjourned the case until Sept. 5 for trial.
