Sowore a prisoner of conscience

When a group of citizens call for revolution under any circumstances, what is required is deep reflection of the present, peeking into the future with conscience and conscious, evaluation of aspirations of the nation. Sowore and co, may not be outrightly wrong in this instance. Revolution may occur within a government or outside it. It all depends of the focus of government and her attachment to the well-being of the people. Arresting the proponents of the current revolution is not the answer but a conscious assessment of the events that led to the call and providing immediate response/answers would have been the best option available to the FG. A government that responds to the immediate yarning of the people is on the course of revolution.

How can a call for response to the yarning of the masses turn to a state crime. We can’t all be dumb in the face of maladministration which the present FG have severally alluded to. It’s unfortunate that this call for revolution is getting louder under President Buhari but he must admit that our social fabrics has been serially raped which was the reason for his election in the first instance. How then do a call for national reawakening, populist policies, security and economic development turn to a crime. Who among us that will not admit that the greater number of persons in our blessed country is living below poverty line in amidst abundance.

The level of corruption experienced in this country alone is one reason for a call for revolution. No country can survive under this type of monumental corruption and vicious hold to national asserts by few that pervert the land. Even Mr President agrees that there is attitudinal deficiency among Nigerians which points to the fact that our attachment to the national Creed is almost zero which of course amount to lack of patriotism. We have watched with folded hands and chocked voices while a few destroy our common patrimony, what a docile society I met and saw . What other form of patriotism is required of a citizen who saw his nation drifting into anarchy and raised a red flag. “Revolution is a total agreement of the majority that the drift in any given society must be stopped and that any policy or enactment of that society must reflect greater good for all” FG must see to it that Sowore is released immediately and revolutionary policies put in place to save our beloved country.

Any nation where there are prisoner of conscience, there are moral burdens that needs to be unburdened to set such nation free. The prisons and detention centers can only provide temporary relief to the government but a free society makes all happy and Mr President needs to be happy. Let us be a Nation not a Country! Release Mr Sowore. Dr Omenazu Jackson writes from the desk of the Chancellor International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights.
