The wave of recent controversy sweeping through the Local Government Area (Obio/Akpor) touched Rumuodumaya community last month following a very strong disagreement between two faction of youths of the community over the mode to be used in conducting the purported youth election that was suppose to take place early last month.
Close sources revealed that the chiefs and elders of the community dissolved the electoral committee appointed by the outgoing youth president of Rumuodomaya Community Theophilus Ndamati as a result of crisis among the youths and appointed Rumuodomaya community development council Exco (RCDC) as electoral committee to conduct the said youth election.
The RCDC Exco summoned all registered youth of the organization and made it known to them that they are willing to conduct the youth election but bent on doing it by follow your leader system as enshrined in the youth constitution.
This decision by the RCDC Exco did not go down well with a faction of the youth led by one of the presidential aspirant Mr. Joseph Ichegbo, to them; they want the secret ballot system thereby saying that the constitution should be kept aside until after the election.
The other faction of the youth led by one of the presidential aspirant Mr. Kingsley Ogbonna has lauds the RCDC Exco for having so much respect for the RYO Constitution. To him, respect for the constitution of Rumuodomaya Youth Organization (RYO) is respect and love for the unlimited peace Rumuodomaya community has always enjoyed, thereby, urging the RCDC Exco not to allow itself to be distracted or have disregard for the rule of law.
Ever since this ugly incidence started in Rumuodomaya early last month, the community has not known or enjoyed usual peace, as there has been several threat to life’s with so much fear in the minds of many for what may be the outcome of this controversy. If the bomb is allowed to explode.
It will be a welcomed development if the government of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area intervenes now before it’s too late. A stitch in time saves nine.
