Across the Rivers State, beyond our boundaries, many are glued to unfolding events in our political locker room. They are like men watching a movie. There are those who are engaged for instance, in a bit of content analysis. Their aim may be to discover the hidden identity of the script writers who are behind the political soap opera which has Abe and Wike as the major casts that’s now showing on our screen.
There are others whose interest maybe in the roles of those who are like cameramen, producers and the directors, men and women that naturally work backstage making sure we have something new to keep pace with in terms of imagery.
Last week, the unending drama by political actors and actresses who belong to the NEW alliance drew sympathisers from across the country.
These men and women who gathered at the Polo Club spared nothing. They took hold of their bows and released a barrage of arrows.
Bukola Saraki, credited with the betrayal of his own party in order to achieve a dream to be Senate President said it was inconceivable that there were two APC events on one day, stressing, what is bad is bad.
While he extolled Abe for his good works in building the party, Saraki urged the APC State Chairman, Dr Davies Ikanya to take control of the reins of the party.
Good speech! Good enough for the soap box!!So, I’m greatly impressed dear Senate President by your choice of words.
But wait-a-minute! Would the Senate President in all sincerity swallow the pill he has prescribed if the scene were to switch to Kwara where many allege he presides with a tight fist?
If the Senate President were such a loyal buddy as he want us to believe Abe is, why is his intended move out of the APC which is already in the media an option? Why are PDP members in Kwara worried about his arrival on the scene if he were such an inclusive team player?
Could it be that the Senate President was complementing Abe for allegedly working for a faceless group that may be determined to dismember the APC? This talk about people who may not have been ministers without my good friend Abe, where is it coming from? Could the Senate President have been one of those behind the scene who did not want certain presidential nominees to scale through screening? Now that it is possibly clear that the Senate President may be headed for the PDP, could he have remotely been one of those who covertly reached out to the Rivers State Government to raise a petition against one of the nominees at the time?
It was however, Timi whose name is Sylva who struck me as totally odd. I can imagine how much time he may have taken prior to the event, before the bedroom mirror, to articulate his speech.
Sylva cast himself in the mold of a consummate kingmaker as he spoke and left me wondering if the man honestly thought he was standing on Bayelsa soil. It may well be that Sylva thought so too.
On television, as I watched him, Timi Sylva was more like a man determined to remove the moth from the eyes of another when he has done very little to remove the log in his own eyes.
The man from Bayelsa however endorsed the Senator representing the Rivers Southeast like a priest would do while delivering a sermon, saying the Most Dinstinguished Senator Abe is the one who should get the ticket on the platform of the APC.
Even in Bayelsa where he has not lifted a finger to raise his party, there were reactions, especially among APC members. Could Timi be serious? Has he a vote in the Rivers APC?
What consequence would Sylva’s generous endorsement have any way? If Sylva were to have the desire to be a prophet, shouldn’t he prophecy in Bayelsa where the APC needs his helping hand?
Just the other day, there was a harvest of those who are supposedly loyal to him in Bayelsa. Could this be a sign of a poor leadership style or evidence of his intent to return to the PDP like Saraki?
All is fair in war any way. Amaechi must be learning that the hard way. Most of the big wigs who came to Port Harcourt had something in common. They were men who nursed dreams to be president when the APC was born. Alas, for some reason, they have continued to blame Amaechi who supported Buhari’s emergence as president for their loss.
Some of them can’t come to terms with the fact that despite attempts to pull him down, Amaechi has assumed a looming image at the national level. He has been hit again and again and still the man has the guts to dance, and the audacity to pull huge crowds where ever he goes.
But it is not Amaechi who must be smiling to the bank in so many ways, following what is playing out in the Rivers APC. Abe and those who came to Port Harcourt at least got the message from the Ogoni heartland when Amaechi stepped in there.
But Wike must be the one smiling to the bank. Reason is, he is indeed the ultimate beneficiary of all this. Don’t ask me why!
What’s interesting is that he has Abe where he wants him. Skilfully, he has managed to turn Abe into a convert with one leg in and one leg out of his own party. So Abe parades like a gubernatorial aspirant in the APC and as a friend of the PDP. What a game!
In many ways, man is like an ostrich. The ostrich hides its head in the sand and reckons that it has hidden the rest of its body from prying eyes.
Wike and Abe are like two ostriches playing hide and seek in the sand. What is not clear is if both men truly imagine like the ostrich that the emissions from their body and soul which reflect their body language are not seen.
Let’s take a good look at Abe. Abe is not just a successful lawyer, he is a brilliant politician and a crafty strategist. Most people I know would agree.
Abe has been parading and the feedback that’s all over the place is that he has his eyes on the governorship of Rivers State.
I am sure Abe wants us to believe he truly wants to be that strong, resilient and unbeatable candidate that the APC would have on its platform.
