Aluu 4 tragedy: court acquits suspects

Justice Letan Nyordee of Port Harcourt High Court has acquitted five out of the twelve persons facing trial in the murder case of four undergraduate students of the University of Port Harcourt, popularly called Aluu 4

The suspects were in 2012 charged with conspiracy, murder, lynching and burning of 4 under graduates: Ugunna Ubuzor (aged 18 years ), Lloyd Toku ( aged 19 years), Tekena Elkanah (aged 20 years) and Chikadaka Odinga (aged 20 years).

The trial Judge revealed on Thursday, January 26, that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had filed a submission of ‘no case’ against the five accused persons and recommended their release from prison.

Justice Nyordee ruled that there were no evidence linking the suspects to the charges based on the DPP’s advice and discharged  the inmates : Lawal Segun, Okoghiroh Endurance, Ozioma Abajuo, Chigozie Evans Samuel including the traditional ruler of Omuokiri, in Aluu community,Ikwerre Local Government Area,  Alhaji Hassan Welewa

The remaining seven accused persons are however, still facing trial and the matter was adjourned to February 9.
