The proposed kickoff date for the NLNG Train 7, might suffer huge setback if urgent steps are not taken to address very important issues raised by stakeholders in the region. This concern was expressed by South South Chiefs, Elders and Opinion leaders after a crucial stakeholders meeting in Rivers State.
In a statement made available to Africa Update, the group said: We refer to the contract of over $4billion dollars contracted in the favour of saipem in a joint venture with Daewoo E.&c.co Ltd and chiyoda . We are indeed glad for such development and infrastructural stride being executed by the NLNG for the development of our the nation.
However, we wish to register our protest on behalf of the good people of the South-south and the host communities of the LNG project over discrimination decision to site engineering design and possible procurement sections of the project in Lagos State as against siting it in the host communities in Rivers State to boost our rural economy , youth’s employment and revenue generation of the state and of the people of South-south region.
It is in this vein; we demand and reiterate that you review the decision as it is not in the best interest of the South-south region in general and the host communities in particular. We therefore demand that you relocate the engineering and procurement of the LNG TRAIN-7 project to Rivers State South-south Nigeria as indicated in the advanced notice to the relevant authorities. We request that you comply with our modest demand above, we shall in our name seek legal redress against all parties and relevant authorities raising as a cause of action, the discriminatory or oppressive policies of expropriating main service of NLG out of the South-south region. our address is as contained in our letter headed and claims shall include declaration , injunction and monetary damages .
