Abeokuta, Nigeria — Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a dramatic increase in the state’s economy, which has surged from ₦3.5 trillion to ₦16 trillion over the past six years. The governor also revealed that the state has secured a major investment pledge of between $1.8 billion and $2.5 billion from the Mac Group, a move set to transform the state’s tourism and hospitality sectors. Governor Abiodun made the disclosure during a courtesy call from Messrs Fayad Fayad and Hassan Fayad of the Mac Group at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He emphasized that Ogun has become “the fastest-growing economy in the country” due to significant progress in infrastructure, economic development, and tourism. |
Olumo Rock’s Revenue Surge
As a testament to the state’s potential, Governor Abiodun revealed that the renovated Olumo Rock tourist center in Abeokuta now generates approximately ₦20 million weekly, a stark contrast to the same amount it previously generated on a yearly basis. This impressive turnaround, the governor noted, proves that well-maintained tourist sites can serve as both relaxation hubs and significant revenue generators.
“We are one of the two best-performing states in Nigeria,” the governor stated. “Our economy, between 2019 and 2025, has quadrupled from ₦3.5 trillion to ₦16 trillion.”
First ‘Disneyland Resort in Africa’
Responding to the governor, Mac Group’s Strategic Advisor, Fayad Fayad, said the organization was proud to initiate a project that would focus on hospitality and entertainment. He revealed that a key initiative is the plan to establish a “Disneyland resort within Ogun State,” which would be the first of its kind in Africa.
“This is definitely the first project, and it is between the range of $1.8 billion to $2.5 billion. Very soon, you will hear very good news,” Fayad said. “It is a huge project for entertainment and tourism. There will be parks, entertainment, hotels, and water parks.”
The governor expressed confidence in the state’s competitive advantages, which include a large landmass, robust infrastructure, and the necessary human capital to support such a large-scale project. The partnership is a major win for Ogun State, promising to create jobs and position the state as a leading destination for tourism and leisure in Africa.
