Rivers State Cabinet Approves Landmark ₦1.85 Trillion ‘Budget of Resilience’ for 2026

The Rivers State Executive Council has formally approved a proposed expenditure of ₦1,854,248,734,475.76 for the 2026 fiscal year. The ambitious financial blueprint, themed the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development,” was ratified during a council meeting presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House yesterday, January 2.

Providing insights into the fiscal framework, the newly inaugurated Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Matters and Social Development, Professor Peter Medee, informed journalists that the budget is meticulously structured to facilitate the completion of ongoing landmark projects while advancing new initiatives across critical sectors of the state’s economy. The multi-trillion naira proposal signals the administration’s intent to consolidate its developmental agenda amidst evolving economic conditions.

Africa Update reports that the budget approval coincided with the swearing-in ceremony of five newly appointed Special Advisers. Addressing the appointees; Mr Eloka Tasie-Amadi, Professor Peter Medee, Mr Emmanuel Fubara, Mr Victor Ekaro, and Dr Darlington Orji, Governor Fubara emphasised that their selection was a deliberate move to bolster the efficiency of the state’s administrative engine.

“What we are doing this afternoon is bringing certain individuals on board to ensure that the wheels of governance continue to roll smoothly in our state,” the Governor remarked. He noted that the appointees were chosen for their familiarity with the administration’s core philosophy, having served the state in various capacities previously.

In a stern address following the administration of the oath of office, Governor Fubara cautioned the advisers against complacency, reminding them that their roles are not ceremonial but are rooted in a “social agreement” to serve the people of Rivers State.

“It is a rare opportunity. Do not let us down,” the Governor stated. “We have come to work for the people. Our social agreement is to work, and that is precisely what we are here to do. It is not a matter of pleasure; it is a matter of labour.”

Reaffirming his administration’s resolve to recover lost ground and deliver on its mandate, Governor Fubara expressed confidence in the state’s inherent resilience. He urged the new cabinet members to foster a culture of collective responsibility and disciplined teamwork.

The Governor concluded by asserting that the high expectations of the public must be met with tangible outcomes, ensuring that the government’s vision is translated into meaningful service delivery for every citizen of Rivers State.
