…Agriculture Commissioner, Engr. Victor Kii, Hails Governor Fubara’s Commitment to Food Security

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the release of counterpart funding for the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises – Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) project, a crucial move to boost food security and economic growth in the region.

The LIFE-ND project is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government of Nigeria, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and nine participating Niger Delta states, including Rivers State. This 12-year initiative, launched in 2019, aims to empower over 35,250 rural youths and women across 10 local government areas through agri-business incubation.

The project’s primary objective is to transform the rural economy, enhancing income, food security, and job creation for the teeming poor rural youths and women. This will be achieved through agri-business training and the establishment of sustainable agri-business for massive production, processing, and marketing of crops like cassava, plantain, and oil palm.

Governor Fubara’s approval of the counterpart funding demonstrates his commitment to agricultural development and food security in Rivers State. This move aligns with his previously stated goals, including promoting economic growth and reducing poverty.

According to Engr. Victor Kii, Honorable Commissioner for Agriculture, the LIFE-ND project will complement Governor Fubara’s stance on massive food production with high-value chain reality for food security, employment generation, wealth creation, and reduction of poverty and youth restiveness in the state.

The Ministry of Agriculture has expressed appreciation for Governor Fubara’s support and encourages citizens to participate in the LIFE-ND project. With this development, Rivers State is poised to benefit from the project’s initiatives, promoting food security, employment generation, wealth creation, and reduction of poverty and youth restiveness.

The LIFE-ND project promises to bring numerous benefits to Rivers State, including: Agri-business training for massive production, processing, and marketing of crops, sustainable agricultural incubation to enhance income, food security, and job creation, empowerment of over 35,250 poor rural youths and women and transformation of rural economy to reduce poverty and youth restiveness.
