The Rivers State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Richard Eyina Victor, has urged politicians to abandon hate speech and campaigns of calumny, insisting that the 2027 electoral contest should be driven by policies, development plans and the welfare of the people.

Victor, who is aligned with the Aminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP, made the call during a courtesy visit to a political figure in Port Harcourt, accompanied by members of the One Rivers Movement.

He urged political actors to conduct their campaigns with decorum and responsibility, warning against rhetoric capable of deepening divisions and distracting attention from the critical issues confronting Rivers State.

According to him, political campaigns should provide candidates with an opportunity to present credible ideas, articulate their development priorities and explain how they intend to improve the living conditions of the people.

The governorship hopeful also pledged to restore what he described as the good old days in Rivers State, promising to pursue practical and actionable policies aimed at strengthening the state’s economy and improving the welfare of residents if elected in 2027.

Victor expressed confidence in the readiness of the PDP, under the chairmanship of Aminu Turaki, to contest the forthcoming elections and assume governance of the state, provided the party secures the mandate of the electorate.

He emphasised the need for constructive engagement and a clear development agenda, maintaining that political competition should be centred on ideas and solutions rather than personal attacks.

In his remarks, the President-General of the One Rivers Movement, Chinwendu Isaac Orduwa, highlighted the importance of unity of purpose among party members and supporters, describing it as essential to achieving electoral success.

Isaac stressed that a shared vision, cooperation and collective commitment would be crucial to mobilising support and advancing the political aspirations of the movement and its allies ahead of the 2027 elections.

The courtesy visit brought together several PDP candidates contesting various legislative seats in Rivers State, alongside other party faithful.

Those in attendance included the PDP candidate for Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency and Secretary-General of the One Rivers Movement, Hon. Gloria Boma Harry; the party’s candidate for Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, Hon. Fred Atteng; and its candidate for Port Harcourt Federal Constituency II, Hon. Mrs Elizabeth Oriema Amadichuku.

Others were the PDP candidate for Ahoada East State Constituency II, Hon. LoveGod Nweze; the candidate for Emohua State Constituency, Hon. Meme Samuel Godspower; the candidate for Port Harcourt City State Constituency I, Hon. Kingsley Uche Amadi; and the candidate for Port Harcourt City State Constituency II, Hon. Tekena Fiberesima.

Other party faithful and supporters of the One Rivers Movement also participated in the visit, which highlighted calls for political unity, issue-based engagement and a development-focused approach to the 2027 elections.
