Controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of enabling political impunity following remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, about his political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a video posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday, the activist criticised what he described as the growing arrogance of some government officials, arguing that the pursuit of a second presidential term should not come at the expense of accountability.
“President Tinubu, imagine the kind of impunity you have enabled in Nigeria, all in the name of securing a second term. You have allowed power-intoxicated people like the FCT Minister to forget their place,” he said.
VDM also warned political leaders against underestimating the electorate, insisting that Nigerians would ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 elections.
“The masses are bigger than all of you. Nobody knows the outcome of the 2027 election because you people have pushed Nigerians to the wall,” he added.
The activist, however, blamed ordinary Nigerians for weakening their collective influence through ethnic and religious divisions, which he said had undermined efforts to hold political leaders accountable.
“I blame the people that refuse to unite, always using the tribal card and religion,” he said.
In the caption accompanying the video, VDM tagged Tinubu’s official Instagram account and reiterated his criticism of the President, arguing that political leaders had lost sight of their responsibilities because citizens had failed to assert their collective power.
He described Wike’s remarks as the trigger for his reaction but placed the greater responsibility on Tinubu, whom he referred to as the FCT minister’s principal.
The comments add to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 elections over the influence of public office-holders, electoral accountability and the role of voters in determining the country’s political future.
