The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Rivers State Chapter, has expressed grief over the death of veteran actor, Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, and commiserated with the national body of the guild and his family.
The Rivers State chapter also extended its condolences to Jacobs’ widow, veteran actress Joke Silva, who serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
In a condolence statement signed by the Chairman of the AGN, Rivers State Chapter, Dr Ken Osunwa, the guild described Jacobs as a thoroughly trained professional whose exceptional talent brought characters to life on stage and screen.
Dr Osunwa said the late actor’s influence extended beyond Nigeria’s film industry, noting his contribution to the international entertainment industry before his return to Nigeria.
“He featured in movies and series abroad before returning to the country to mentor young and aspiring actors,” Osunwa stated.
The Rivers State chapter described Jacobs as an iconic figure whose talent and professionalism made a lasting contribution to the performing arts.
The guild prayed for the repose of the soul of the late thespian and asked God to grant strength and comfort to Joke Silva and the entire Jacobs family as they mourn his passing.
Olu Jacobs was a highly regarded Nigerian actor whose career spanned more than five decades across stage, television and film in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
