Senior leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and National Chairman, Senator David Mark, on Saturday attended the funeral service of the late mother of the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, in Ubima, Rivers State.
The funeral service for Dame Mary Orduah Amaechi, 89, was held at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Ubima, on September 5, where political leaders and other dignitaries gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased and offer support to the Amaechi family.
Among those who attended the service were former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola and other prominent figures.
The ADC said its leaders attended the funeral to “pay their final respects and stand with the Amaechi family in their time of grief”.
Dame Mary Orduah Amaechi’s death was announced on July 16, 2026, prompting condolences from political leaders and associates of the former Rivers State governor.
Her burial took place a day after former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, visited Amaechi’s residence in Port Harcourt to offer their condolences.
The gathering in Ubima brought together leaders from across Nigeria’s political landscape, reflecting the widespread condolences following the death of Amaechi’s mother.
