The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, concerning the ownership of Chief Bode George’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, insisting that the minister has neither the legal nor moral authority to lay claim to the property.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the state chapter of the opposition party maintained that the Maitama mansion is the lawful property of the PDP chieftain and urged the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to uphold the rule of law by respecting established property rights and due process.

The party accused the FCT minister of attempting to politicise the issue, warning against any action that could be interpreted as an abuse of office or an infringement on the constitutional rights of Nigerian citizens.

According to the Lagos PDP, ownership disputes must be resolved through lawful procedures rather than public pronouncements or political considerations, stressing that no individual, regardless of official position, should be allowed to undermine the rights of property owners.

The latest exchange marks another chapter in the growing tensions between Wike and several influential figures within the PDP over property-related matters in the Federal Capital Territory. The disagreement reflects the deepening divisions within the opposition party as internal rivalries continue to intensify.

Political observers believe the controversy could further strain relations among key stakeholders in the PDP, particularly as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The dispute is expected to fuel further debate over the exercise of executive powers in the Federal Capital Territory, while underscoring the broader internal challenges confronting the PDP as it seeks to reposition itself before the next electoral cycle.
