The One Rivers Movement, a socio-political pressure group in Rivers State, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold neutrality, impartiality and professionalism in the conduct of the 2027 general elections.

The appeal was made by the President-General of the organisation, Chinwendu Isaac, during a birthday celebration organised in honour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Richard Victor, who is aligned with the faction of the party led by Acting National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki.

Addressing guests at the event, Mr Isaac stressed the need for INEC to remain unbiased in discharging its constitutional responsibilities, noting that the credibility of the electoral process would play a decisive role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

He lamented what he described as the developmental setbacks experienced in Rivers State in recent years, maintaining that active participation by citizens in the electoral process remains the most effective means of bringing about the desired political and socio-economic transformation.

Mr Isaac also paid glowing tribute to Richard Victor, describing him as a visionary leader with the capacity to reposition the state. According to him, should the PDP governorship candidate secure the mandate of the electorate in the 2027 governorship election, his administration would ensure equitable distribution of human and infrastructural development across all parts of Rivers State.

Responding, Richard Victor expressed profound appreciation to friends, political associates and family members for organising the celebration in his honour. He thanked supporters for their goodwill and encouragement, pledging to remain committed to the ideals of inclusive leadership and service to the people.

The event attracted prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, members of the One Rivers Movement and numerous well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate the governorship hopeful.

Activities marking the occasion commenced with a thanksgiving service at Royal Flocks Ministries, located along the Obiri Ikwerre/Airport Road in Port Harcourt, before culminating in a colourful reception held at Palacio Event Centre on 2 August, where guests took turns to celebrate the life, leadership aspirations and contributions of Richard Victor.
