The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City has installed Rotarian Darlington Kinikanwo Owiriwa as its 14th President, marking the commencement of the club’s activities for the 2026–2027 Rotary year.
The investiture ceremony, held on Sunday, 5 July 2026, attracted a distinguished gathering of Rotarians, traditional rulers, community leaders, family members and invited guests in what organisers described as a colourful and memorable occasion.
The event was particularly significant as it was witnessed by members of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, where the newly installed president serves as Secretary to the Council.
In recognition of their outstanding contributions to grassroots leadership and community development, several state-recognised traditional rulers were presented with awards for their exemplary service in promoting peace, stability and harmonious coexistence within their respective kingdoms.
The awards underscored the critical role of traditional institutions in fostering social cohesion and supporting sustainable community development, values that align closely with Rotary International’s commitment to humanitarian service.
As part of the ceremony, the club also inaugurated its Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 Rotary year, formally empowering the new leadership team to implement the organisation’s programmes and strategic objectives over the coming year.
The installation further featured the launch of several service projects aimed at addressing pressing community needs through interventions in areas such as education, health, economic empowerment and humanitarian support.
In keeping with Rotary’s tradition of expanding its membership and strengthening its service network, new members were also inducted into the club during the ceremony.
Speaking during the event, Rotarian Owiriwa reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Rotary’s ideals of “Service Above Self” by promoting impactful community initiatives, strengthening partnerships and enhancing the club’s contribution to sustainable development across Rivers State.
The ceremony concluded with goodwill messages from dignitaries and members of the Rotary family, who expressed confidence in the new president’s leadership and his capacity to build on the achievements of previous administrations while advancing Rotary’s mission of selfless service and community transformation.
