In a major move to fortify its electoral foundations, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Henry Seriake Dickson, on Monday inaugurated a 21-member Selection Committee tasked with finalizing the party’s candidate lineup for the 2027 general elections.

The establishment of the committee follows the conclusion of the party’s extensive screening exercise for aspirants eyeing gubernatorial seats, the National Assembly, and various State Houses of Assembly.

According to an official statement issued by the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the high-level committee was constituted to enhance transparency, reinforce internal democracy, and guarantee absolute credibility in the selection process.

The panel is mandated to review, scrutinize, and deliberate upon the comprehensive reports and recommendations submitted by both the National Screening Committee and the respective State Houses of Assembly Screening Committees before ratifying the final outcomes for all aspirants.

The Selection Committee is under the chairmanship of the NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe.

Party leadership noted that the committee’s formation aligns directly with the strategic recommendations of the National Working Committee (NWC), executed in close consultation with Mr Dickson. The measure forms part of broader institutional reforms designed to position the NDC as a potent political force ahead of the upcoming general elections.

“The committee is to ensure that the NDC presents the most formidable candidate for every position to be contested in the general election,” the statement from Mr Director emphasized.

In a related development aimed at strengthening party solidarity, the NDC National Leader hosted an inaugural Aspirants’ Dinner, drawing together party leaders, screened aspirants, and key political stakeholders from across the federation.

A secondary statement signed by the NDC National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, outlined that the gathering was purposefully designed to deepen internal unity and facilitate meaningful interactions between the party’s hierarchy and its prospective candidates.

During the event, the party leadership extended their appreciation to dedicated members and stakeholders who continue to drive the expansion of the NDC’s influence both within Nigeria and across the Diaspora.

“It is part of our vision of making the NDC one true united and closely knit family, where everyone is important,” Mr Enekweizu remarked, underscoring the party’s commitment to collective inclusivity.
