New Year Message from Professor Owunari Georgewill, Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT

*New Year Message from Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, Vice-Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt to all Staff, Students, Alumni and Strategic Partners/Stakeholders of the University of Port Harcourt*

It is the dawn of a new beginning and we stand with a heart full of gratitude to the Almighty God for His boundless mercies and sustaining grace.

Together, we have navigated through 2024, a year marked by challenges that tested our resilience and opportunities that strengthened our resolve. We celebrate our accomplishments and reflect on the lessons learned, even as we set our sights on the promises of a brighter future.

The start of a new year offers us a sacred moment to restrategize, refocus, and renew our collective commitment to excellence, peace, and progress. It is a clarion call to anchor our aspirations on the enduring values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
Discipline provides the foundation for consistent growth; teamwork empowers us to achieve more through collaboration; and resilience equips us to turn challenges into stepping stones.

As we embrace 2025, I urge our *students* to remain focused on the primary reason for which they are in the University and continue to embrace peace, which is the bedrock of meaningful progress. Let us reject all forms of vices and nurture a culture of respect, understanding, and inclusivity.
Our campus remains a haven of intellectual growth and harmony, where dialogue and collaboration replace conflict and strife.

To the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the University of Port Harcourt deeply appreciates Your Excellency for the continued existence of the University, to our stakeholders/strategic partners, we appreciate your kind gestures and call for your continued commitment to the vision and mission of the University. Your support is invaluable in creating an environment where academic and research excellence thrives.

To our alumni, we encourage you to play more inclusive roles, contributing to the development of your alma mater through mentorship, philanthropy, and active participation in university programs. Together, we can achieve much more.

Our amiable workforce, you all have been dutiful, we encourage all staff to recommit to upholding ethical behaviours in our professional and personal lives. Integrity, dedication, and a sense of accountability must guide our actions as we model the values we wish to see in our students and community.

As a university, we are called to be a beacon of transformation; not only academically but also socially. We must embrace the future with hope and courage, knowing that unity in purpose will propel us to greater heights.

Above all, let us keep God at the centre of our endeavours, trusting in His guidance to turn challenges into triumphs and limitations into limitless possibilities.

We pray that the year 2025 would be a year of peace, more prosperity, and abundant blessings for you and your families.
