Dr. Agiriye Monima Harry, Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, has identified the decline in parental and communal involvement in mentoring children as a major cause of societal dysfunction and restiveness.
He observed that the days when fathers gathered children and taught them things related to academics and morales are far gone.
Harry made the observation when, the Chaplain of Kalabari Kingdom Mass Choir, Ven. Dr. Isoboye Amabibi and other members paid him a courtesy visit at the Council Secretariat on November 6th.
He emphasized the importance of individuals using their qualifications and experiences to instill values in young people, which would contribute to a better society.
He said; “Your community input is what l am asking. And it is a question. What are you willing to do or what have you done for your various communities based on who you are.
“Our teachers don’t come. We are not doing well in school. Those days, fathers used to gather children together and teach them something. I don’t see that anymore.”
Members of the Kalabari Kingdom Mass Choir, had notified the Chairman of their intentions to organize a praise and Thanksgiving program.
The Music Director, Johnny Brown Dennis Aketamunobarasuam, had earlier informed the Chairman of their upcoming Praise and Thanksgiving program.
Particularly to thank God for the peace that has returned to Kalabari kingdom and the electoral victory of the Chairman.
He stated, ‘We believe it’s important to come together as Kalabari people to thank God for the peace and progress in our community. By expressing gratitude, we invite more blessings from God.
‘Before we came to you, we met with our father, Edi-Abali Mujahid Asari Dokubo, to discuss with him, to thank him for all he has done for kalabari people and Rivers people and tell him that we will honour him on December 26.”
On his part, Rev Amabibi, drawing inspiration from 2 Corinthians 4: 15-18, said, the future will be better, because the “challenges we are in now, everybody both in Politics, churches, everywhere, there are little, little challenges but we believe that tomorrow will be better than what we are experiencing. And so, we all need to do this, and hold on to God.”
The group notified the Chairman that he would be the special patron and chief host of the program that will have the participation of other Choir groups from Akuku Toru and Asari Toru Local Government Areas.
Those present include: the Chairman- Tubotamuno Daniel, Secretary- Manners Seleipiri, Treasurer- Krakraye Harvest Harry, Dawari Bibi-Idalama, and Marian S. Quakers- Dokubo, who are members.
