The election of the Apex Youth Association in Nigeria, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eastern Zone , turned bloody on Saturday, at Abuloma community in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State, leaving an unconfirmed number of people killed, others injured and a bus reportedly burnt.
Africa Update reports that the election that held at the Abuloma Model Primary School, was going on smoothly when armed men numbering over 100 stormed the venue shooting sporadically and pulling down canopies.
It was gathered that the armed men stormed the election venue on the orders of a warlord who is interested in the outcome of the IYC election.
The shooting which lasted for over four hours threw Abuloma community and its environs into panic as residents and business owners scampered for safety.
The Rivers State Police Command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Commissioner of Police despatched tactical teams to the venue, but before the arrival of the police, the perpetrators had run into hiding.

The Rivers State Police Command is aware of the senseless and sporadic shooting at Abuloma area in the Port-Harcourt City Local Government of the State where the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Eastern Zone were conducting their elections.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police Rivers State has swiftly despatched Tactical Teams to the scene , but before the arrival of the Police, the perpetrators have run into their hidings.
The Commissioner of Police has given marching orders to track down the perpetrators and bring them to face the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, the Command wishes to advise all law abiding citizens to go about their lawful businesses and report any suspicious movement to the Police, as normalcy has returned to the area please.
