Rivers Rerun: INEC announces date for Etche election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced a new date for the conclusion of the suspended rerun election in Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner,  Rivers State, Aniedi Ikoiwa in a statement issued yesterday,  revealed that the election will hold Saturday February 25, in 147 poling units in 19 registration areas in Etche and one poling unit in Umuogba community in Omuma Local Government Area.

He said the commission has already deployed electoral officers for the election which will fill the Etche constituency 2 seat at the State House of Assembly and the Etche/Omuma Federal constituency seat.

” we have already deployed four electoral officers and three Assistant Electoral officers, permanently to Etche from now on to work.

” we are also going to deploy nearly the whole of INEC. Both at the Local Government and the headquarters.  This is to reduce the logistic of getting support from other organizations.

He however assured the electorates of the Commission’s commitment towards conducting a free and fair election.

Ikoiwa urged stakeholders to be remorseful and exercise restrain when it comes to violence.
