The Nasarawa State Government has raised alarm over an outbreak of Lassa fever.
Speaking to newsmen in Lafia, the Director of Public Health at the state’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu said eight people have died from Lassa fever , while the number of people who came in contact with the victims have risen to 82 from 66.
He said these 82 people were currently receiving treatment and monitored to avert spread of the fever.
Further reiterating that the state government has also provided medication and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure adequate control.
Adamu disclosed that in order to allay the fear on the spread of the disease at the hospital, some wards at DASH had been designated as isolation centres for the Lassa fever patients.
He added that the State Government had also approved the creation of a disease isolation centre along Shinge road in Lafia.
Adamu said that fund was appropriated for the project in the 2017 budget and it had been defended by the ministry before the State House of Assembly.
