Daredevil gunmen kill major contender for LGA chairmanship

Daredevil gunmen have reportedly shot dead a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who is also a strong contender for the local government chairmanship, Africa Update has gathered.

The politician identified as Ejike Ugwueze, was killed on Friday night, while driving along Neke Odenigbo, a community in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Ugwueze was aspiring to occupy the chairmanship position of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of the state.

Africa Update learnt that the Council election is billed to hold in October, 2024.

The attackers were said to have blocked the politician’s vehicle and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The scene of the cold blooded murder was seen in a video clip circulating on social media, apparently recorded shortly after the incident.

In the clip, Ugwueze was seen lying lifeless in his bullet riddled Lexus SUV with doors ajar.

You may recall that Ugwueze’s brother, Chijioke Ugwueze, died in June 2020 while serving as a member of the State Assembly.

The late lawmaker’s wife, Amaka Ugwueze, was subsequently elected to replace her husband in the House.

Residents said police operatives visited the scene and locked the vehicle. While a police source disclosed that investigation has commenced.
