Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has committed to ensuring the timely completion of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, a critical step towards restoring full legislative functionality within the state. During an inspection of the construction site on Saturday, Ibas underscored the urgency of the project, identifying the absence of a functional legislature as a significant gap in the state’s governance structure.
“In the last two days of assuming duties, it has become evident that a vital pillar of state governance is currently missing,” Ibas stated, emphasizing the need for a conducive environment for legislative activities. He directed the project contractor to accelerate work and adhere to the agreed-upon delivery schedule, aligning with his mandate to reinstate effective legislative operations within his six-month tenure.
Accompanied by the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, and guided by Engineer Omaka Oko, General Manager of the construction company, Ibas assessed the project’s progress. “Having observed the executive arm of the state’s governance, it’s clear that the legislature, a crucial component, requires a suitable workspace to function effectively,” he noted. “My aim is to ensure the completion of this complex within the stipulated timeframe.”
Ibas acknowledged the state’s financial commitment to the project, stating, “The state has fulfilled its obligations by providing the necessary funds.” He reiterated his primary objective: to maintain law and order, paving the way for the state to return to its optimal operational state.
