Founder Old Port Harcourt Neighbourhood Association Jennifer Ibimina Princewill said the Quiz competition, the second in the series, was borne out of a desire to give back to society especially schools in the old Port Harcourt Township area in which they grew up and to encourage the pupils to excel in their academics.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Dawari George expressed delight at the performance the pupils and encouraged them to be diligent in their studies and not give up despite the challenge f poor infrastructure in many of their schools.

President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City Rotarian Karina Igonikon observed that seeing the pupils excelling academically whilst building and enhancing their social skills, teamwork, critical thinking and public speaking was quite delightful and lauded the diligent teachers who discharge their duties despite the poor learning conditions in most public schools.

She noted that October is the month in which Rotary focuses on Basic education and literacy by carrying out projects that promote quality education and intervenes practically through her dust to desk projects, donation of books and other writing materials as well as provision of water and sanitation facilities to different schools.

She called on the government and good spirited Nigerians to see areas they can contribute in to the education of the students by assisting in providing a good learning environment in these public schools.

President, Port Harcourt Crystal Lions Club Lion Arc. Frank Anokwute charged the pupils to always excel at their studies not just in this quiz competition as its a proof that pupils of the Public school system can compete favourably with their counterparts in the private school system. The Lions Club also donated exercise books to all the pupils.

20 public Primary schools participated in the two day Quiz competition in Mathematics, English language and General Studies and six scaled to the finals.

Books, school bags and other writing materials were given to pupils while winning schools went home with trophies and cash prizes.
