Barely one week after the closure of 16 top notch private schools in Rivers State, the Chief Nyesom Wike led government has ordered the immediate suspension of the General Manager of the State owned Delta Hotels and the closure of some hotels including Rachael hotels, Visa Karina and Sapphire Hotel.
The decision to close down these hotels was made following the failure of the Hotel management to attend a meeting with the Governor.
Making the pronouncement at Government House, Chief Wike reiterated that sanctions would be given to Business owners who flout policies of the State government .
Speaking further he warned agencies, parastatals and caretaker Chairmen of 23 Local Government Councils to stop collection of levies and taxes from hoteliers.
He attributed loss of billions of Naira in revenue to fraudulent activities of some revenue agents and announced the temporal suspension of remittance of taxes and levies pending the activation of a single account.
“We have met with the Local Government . The only thing Local Government is allowed to collect is tenement rate. All these operational permit, operational heaven, all these things have ended.
“Sanitation fee is only state government that will collect. Enough is enough.” he stressed.
