About three persons are now feared dead and many others still missing following a fire outbreak in oru-ama Boko community Bille kingdom in Degema local government area of Rivers state.
Some of the residents in the area narrated to Africa Update that the fire allegedly started when a boat that was impounded and set ablaze by officials of the Nigerian Navy over illegal bunkering activities, was swept to the shoreline of the community due to the heavy wind and the flood tide.
The community dwellers said they have lost their valuables and source of livelihoods in the inferno that wrecked havoc in the early hours of Sunday morning.
They therefore called on the Nigerian Navy and the Rivers State Government to send relief materials to them as they are left stranded by the unfortunate incident.
Speaking to our correspondent, the Amadabo of Oru-Ama Boko community, Alaibiye West, called on government to urgently intervene in restoring the community to its original state.
On his part, the representative of the Amayanabo of Bille Erekosima Alalibo, said they will conduct a thorough assessment of the damage done and relate with relevant authorities.
