Fire razes property worth millions in Rivers State

An evening fire incident has razed down buildings and house hold items worth millions of naira along the Elele, Port Harcourt road in Ikwerre local government area. Eye witnesses told our correspondent Precious Ahiakwo who visited the scene that fire started after the driver of a bus laden with jerry cans of illegally refined Petroleum products popularly called Kpo fire ran into the area while been chased by some Police men.

Another eyewitness narrated that some Policemen were chasing the driver of a bus laden with kpo fire Asari kerosene from Ahoada area, when the driver ran into a close with nearby blocks of building along the Port Harcourt, Elele road where the explosion suddenly occurred and burnt over five buildings. The eyewitnesses said efforts to get the Rivers state fire service located around Igwuruta town, to come put off the raging fire already gutting nearby buildings, wasn’t successful as men of the fire service didn’t show up. They said the owner of the mostly affected buildings has been bed ridden for two years and may not survive the news. Our correspondent reports that no lives was lost or injured during the fire incidents. Some Residents around the fire scene were seen evacuating their property from their homes.
