IPOB’s attack on Mr Chibuike Amaechi: David Okumgba calls for action, describes attack as “a testimony of lawlessness”

The Zonal Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South South zone, has condemned the recent attack on the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi in Spain.

In a statement released today, Okumgba, described the act by members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as an act of lawlessness and enjoined the international community, to join forces with Nigerian government to nip the “growing menace in the bud”.

The statement reads: ” Our attention has been drawn to yesterday’s vicious attack on the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Madrid, Spain.

“While we condemn the entirety of the said act which incontrovertibly falls within the realm of lawlessness, we wish to enjoin our friends in the international community to join forces with the Nigerian people to fight against this obvious malady.

“Without doubt, the IPOB members that claimed to carry out the attack are on a mission to desecrate the image of the country by first destroying the image of the nation’s elder statesmen who, in their service, not only to Nigerians but humanity generally, have maintained selflessness, of which Hon Amaechi is one.

“It is indeed worrisome that IPOB has established a court of its own laws and their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is the supreme judge and they have, in their quest to achieve a sinister motive, sentenced all well meaning Nigerians to a prison of assault and torture abroad.

“This is, in the eyes of international law and diplomacy, an illegality that must be handled internationally, if the world must get saner.

“While it is true that anyone that is aggrieved has the permission of the law to seek redress, this right so granted must be exercised within the confines of the law. Nnamdi kanu and his IPOB members are, by attacking innocent people who have been selected to serve the Nigerian people in the most violent form, resorting to self help which the law does not recognise.

“However, we have only recently analysed the so called reasons for IPOB’s noisemaking and discovered that, indeed, they are only acting on impulse without any legal claim.

“While we call on Nigerians in the diaspora to guide against being used by some of our own countrymen that have been bitten by the bug of oddity as evident in their behavioral pattern, we enjoin the international community, once again, to join our political leaders to nip this growing menace in the bud.

“We commend the Spanish police for rising to the occasion immediately, moreso that it was their swift response that saved the innocent Hon Amaechi from being killed by those lawless men.

“We also condemn the very recent gruesome murder of an officer of the law, ACP Oliver Abbey, while discharging his constitutional duties allegedly by a band of rampaging IPOB members.

“We believe that by exercising brigandage and being merchants of violence, members of IPOB have appropriated the laws of the land unto themselves.

“This menace is growing in leaps and bounds which calls for urgent attention by the hierarchy of the country’s security agencies.

“We, therefore, call on the police and its sister security agencies, especially the State Security Services, to investigate the matter with the urgency it requires with a view to charging those found to be culpable to a court of competent jurisdiction,” he stated.
