Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Okrika Local Government Area, in Rivers State, have raised alarm over alleged plots by some Chiefs who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to coarse citizens into voting for their party, including using violent means.
According to the leaders, it is impossible to ignore the threats because a member of APC, Mr. Daniel Ayika, was brutally assaulted during the Presidential and National Assembly election, that held on February 23, 2019, after series of threats similar to the present threats were issued.
The South South Zonal Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, David Okumgba, who spoke on behalf of the leaders, said it is pertinent for President Muhammadu Buhari and other relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the threats made by the chairman of the Okrika Divisional Council of chiefs, Chief Kalaowolo Amiesimaka and others during a town hall meeting that held on March 2, 2019, at Okrika, to avert an attack on APC members and other innocent Okrika Sons and daughters, during the Governorship and House of Assembly elections, billed to hold on March 9, 2019.
A press statement made available to Africa Update, reads:
PRESS CONFERENCE ORGANISED BY THE LEADERSHIP OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, APC, OKRIKA CHAPTER, TO ADDRESS THE CURRENT PLANS BY FEW CHIEFS WHO ARE MEMBERS OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY IN OKRIKA TO MANIPULATE OUR RESPECTED CHIEFTAINCY INSTITUTION TO INSTIGATE FURTHER POLITICAL VIOLENCE, INTIMIDATE AND HARASS VOTERS IN OKRIKA TO EITHER ABSTAIN OR VOTE FOR PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, PDP
PROTOCOL
1. This press conference is called to alert the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, security agencies, the good people of okrika and the general public that some chiefs, who are card carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have concluded plans to prevent members of APC and her sympathizers from taking part in the March 9th, 2019 general elections.
2. This plan was made known at a purported okrika town meeting held on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019, where the local government chairman Hon. Philemon requested and was acceded to that since APC does not have a candidate, they should not be seen in Okrira.
3. Mr. Felix Amiesimaka is the one who coordinated all the attacks against APC members during the February 23, elections in okrika and all other previous attacks in 2015.
4. Chief Kalaowolo Amiesimaka is the chairman of the Okrika Divisional Council of chiefs who sometime in 2018 led a delegation to governor Nyesom Wike, and made an irrevocable undertaking that all the votes in Okirka will be commandeered to Wike to make sure he wins a second tenure even at the cost of the blood of Okrika people (the video clip of Chief kalaowolo Amiesimaka’s declaration is hereby given to you the press.)
5. The connection between Chief Kalaowolo Amiesimaka’s promise to Governor Wike and the roles played by his younger brother Felix Amiesimaka is easy to decipher; that is Mr Felix Amesimaka must be taking direction from his older brother to commit all the havocs.
6. This press conference is to further let the world know that should any further attack be executed against any APC member in Okrika, Chief Kalaowolo Amiesimaka and his younger brother Felix Amiesimaka should be held responsible.
7. As Okirka sons and daughters we know our history, we know our heritage and we also know our pedigree. We have never come this low before. We therefore call on all well-meaning leaders of thought to please call Mr. Felix Amiesimaka his older brother, Chief Kalaowolo Amiesimaka and their benefactors, the People Democratic Party and Governor Nyesom Wike to order and enjoin them to please sheath their sword as enough Okrika blood has already being wasted on this their PDP project.
