Environmental Pollution: Rivers State Government Seeks Partnership With FG

The Rivers State Government has called on the Federal Government to help in tackling the environmental challenges faced in the state. Special adviser to the state governor on Sustainable Development Growth, Toru Ofili made this call while speaking at a programme organized by the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations on Sustainable Development. She said residents of the state are at a great risk if nothing is done to reduce the effects of pollution in the state.

” We are trying to find solutions. We don’t want to play the blame game, but the truth of the matter is, there are a lot more poor people, there is a lot more pollution. We are talking about the soot in Rivers state and wondering why the state has not stopped it. It is not the full responsibility of the state government. We have been doing as much as we can. The ministry of environment has been tackling it, but we also need the Federal Government to partner with us on this, because in another 10 years, I do not know what will happen to those living in the Niger Delta because of pollution”, Toru Ofili said.
