Bloody attack leaves monarch in critical condition

The paramount ruler of Oluasiri, Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa state, Chiefson Iyerite Awululu, was on Tuesday attacked with machetes by suspected assassins, at his palace along Otiotio Road, in Yenagoa, the State capital.

It was gathered that the assassins allegedly scaled the fence of the monarch’s residence at about 2.30 am and smashed a burglary proof door into his bedroom, where they reportedly inflicted deep multiple machete cuts on his right shoulder and jaw before leaving him for dead.

Our source revealed that they had returned later at about 5 am, to confirm if he was indeed dead, but discovered that he had been rushed to the hospital.

The room where the monarch was reportedly attacked was said to have been soaked in blood.

Some elders and indigenes of the Oluasiri were said to have passed a vote of no confidence in the monarch in April over allegations of failing to maintain peace in the community, administering the community like a sole administrator and alleged illegal constitution of the Oluasiri Development Union (ODU) and the Oluasiri Youth Federation(OYF).

However, the police spokesman in Bayelsa State, Mr Asinim Butswat, described the incident as an armed robbery attack saying that the suspects stole about N9,000 from the monarch’s residence .
