Awaziem Plays Down Injury Fears, Ready For Liberia vs Nigeria Friendly

Super Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem, says he will be fit for Tuesday’s international friendly against Liberia after picking up a knock in their 3-0 win over Seychelles in Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Victoria.

Awaziem netted Nigeria’s second goal as Nigeria recorded their first win in Group E,
but was subbed off for Semi Ajayi in the 73rd minute due to an injury he sustained

The goal was Awaziem’s first in four international appearances for the Super Eagles.

Awaziem while speaking to newsmen said, “The knock is no problem. I just landed on it in the second half and the physio has looked at it and said it’s fine and I’ll be fine for the next game”.

“It was a good performance from the whole team and we fully deserved the three points. We knew it was a very important game and that we had to try and win – and we managed to do that”.

“We controlled the game and played some great football. We took our chances and deserved the three points.”

Awaziem is expected to partner with Semi Ajayi in defence against the Lone Stars Of Liberia in Monrovia.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles are expected to fly into Monrovia tonight (Monday night) aboard an ARIK Airline plane.

The match is in celebration of Liberian President, former World Footballer of the Year, George Oppong Weah, and is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the 35,000 –capacity Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
