Voters in Port Harcourt Constituency 3, seem to have decided to ensure that the next legislature to represent them at the Rivers State House of Assembly, would be someone who truly emerged through a credible electoral process.
Azubuike Nmerukini and Austin Opara, strong chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, reportedly escaped being lynched by angry voters who resisted attempts by the PDP stalwarts to disrupt voting in wards 10 and 18.
Another PDP chieftain, Chinyere Igwe, who allegedly attempted to hijack ballot materials but was overpowered by angry voters was seen running for his dear life.
Africa Update gathered that the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Democratic Alliance and Mass Movement of Nigeria are participating in the by-election, holding in 142 polling units, across 8 wards in the constituency.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has deployed 800 ad hoc staff and 200 staff to conduct the by-election.
