Over 100 protesters have taken over the popular Zakpo junction in Bori, Rivers State, in the early hours of today, following the state governor’s assent of the Rivers State Polytechnic Law no. 4, 2016 .
The protesters comprising of youths, men and women expressed displeasure at the upgrade, insisting that such approval would be detrimental to the growth of the area and called on the state government to upgrade the Kenule Saro Wiwa polytechnic to a university.
The Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike had insisted yesterday, that the upgrade of the Rivers State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS) to Port Harcourt Polytechnic would not have any negative effect on the existing Kenule Saro Wiwa Polytechnic in Bori, but would rather provide the needed infrastructure and opportunity for citizens to acquire education.
He said government would construct polytechnics in all the Senatorial districts if the state had sufficient fund .
