Rivers Assembly reconstitutes Electoral Commission

The Rivers State  House of Assembly  has confirmed the Appointment of  five new commissioners for the state electoral body.

This follows a request made by Governor Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, demanding for the sack of Dr. Chimaroke Ngba, Engr. Kombo Johnson, Mr. Ugbana Martins, Dr. Robinson Olulu, Chief Kingsley Ogbudibo and Dr. Mrs. Juliet Berewari, for alleged involvement in partisan politics.

Wike’s letter requesting for the sack and outright replacement of  some key officials of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC), was read on the floor of the House by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Ibani.

The letter said that security reports had shown high level of distrust among the affected officials, hence the need to inject new brains that would uphold neutrality which the commission represented and to prepare the body for a smooth local government elections.

The letter read in part: “I hereby request the removal of the following members by the House, this move is in the public interest and in accordance to section 201, subsection 1 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Those appointed include Dr. Reginald Amadi, Prof Jones Jaja, Rev Innocent Karibo, Barr Florence Amiesimaka,  Mr. Etete Festus Josiah while Prof Ozioma Ekpete was rejected.
