Alleged Killers of Jumia Dispatch Rider plead not guilty

Two alleged killers of  Jumia dispatch rider, Eleje Chukwuma, whose body was found in a septic tank, at No. 1, Ada-Ede Street, Shell Location, Mgbuoba, Port Harcourt,  last year have pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, murder and armed robbery before a Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt the Rivers State Capital.

The suspects, Sodienye Mbatumukeke (aka Jelly) and Excel Divine Naabe (aka Joker) , had allegedly committed the murder on March 25, 2017.

Africa Update gathered that the accused persons are charged with possession of  offensive weapons, including a pistle, with which they reportedly hit the victim on the head  before robbing him of one Gionee M6 phone valued at N105,000, IM -10 Desktop GSM dual SIM phone valued at N9,500 and an Infinix Note 3 phone valued at N67,000, the total sum of items stolen valued at N181,000.

In his ruling, the trial Chief Magistrate, Andrew O. Amadi-Nna, said the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the matter due to the gravity of the crime. He notified the court that the case file would be transferred to the court Registrar.  after the case was mentioned.

The suspects who had no defence counsel were advised to seek bail at the state High Court.

The third accused person (Joy Eluwa, Female ) was absent in court .

Chief Magistrate Amadi-nna stated further that the Court Registrar, would transmit the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
