The Community Trust Secretary of Christ Liberty Community in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State , John Alex, has accused the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Sylvanus Nwankwo, of colluding with some politicians from the area to allegedly divert monies accruable to the community from SPDC.
Alex purported that Nwankwo had handpicked the current Executive for the Degema 2 Cluster Development Board, in defiance of the GMoU, that states that members of the board must emerge through election.
He said the commissioner had reportedly taken the decision with the support of the lawmaker representing Degema State Constituency, Farah Dagogo, Commissioner for Social Rehabilitation, Â Damiete Miller and HRH King Steven Tobin.
He further stated that Nwankwo allegedly used the negotiators list as against the GMoU policy while inaugurating the CDB.
Alex called on the State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the State Assembly to urgently intervene to forestall the breakdown of law and order in the community.
In his reaction, Nwankwo denied claims made by Alex accusing him and other politicians  of constituting the Board without inputs from indegenes.
He said contrary to insinuations made, the board was constituted with nominations made by chiefs, elders and other stakeholders.
Nwankwo disclosed that the move was to enable the five communities access funds from oil companies operating in the area. Stating further that these funds have been inaccessible for 5 years due to the absence of a board.
