A final year Political science student of the University of Port Harcourt, Olumide Sampson Akani, has been allegedly killed by military officers, at Ke community in Degema Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Recounting the incident that has led to the desertion of the community, a member of Ke youth forum, Goboye Pokubo, said military officers reportedly invaded the community at about 6.35am on July 25, in a commando style.
Stating further, he said that the final year student was shot during the raid, while another man, Nengi Goodhead, sustained life threatening injuries.
In a swift reaction, the spokesman of the 6th Division, of the Nigeria Army, Aminu Niazu, denied claims that innocent people were killed during the operation aimed at flushing out criminals from the coastal communities.
