PDP National Working Committee constitutes caretaker committees in Rivers, four other states

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally announced the appointment of Caretaker Committees to oversee party affairs in Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, and Osun States.

Acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the NWC invoked Section 29(2)(b) of the party’s Constitution (2025 as amended) to effect these appointments. The decision aims to ensure administrative continuity and stability within the affected state chapters.

The newly appointed committees comprise seasoned party leaders and professionals. The key leadership for each state is as follows:

The committees are charged with the statutory responsibility of managing party affairs in their respective jurisdictions, as stipulated under Section 21(2)(a-b) of the PDP Constitution.

According to the official communique, the tenure of these committees is strictly temporary, spanning a duration not exceeding ninety days. Alternatively, their mandate will conclude upon the successful election of a new substantive Executive Committee.

The National Organizing Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, who signed the resolution on 15 January 2026, emphasised that all committee members must operate within a rigid legal framework. This includes strict adherence to the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act of 2022, and the paramount 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The move is widely seen as a strategic effort by the PDP national leadership to reorganise and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of future electoral engagements.
