Wike concludes plans to privatize Delta Rubber Company

As part of efforts aimed at curbing recent spate of insecurity and joblessness in Rivers State, the Chief Nyesom Wike led government has given hints of possible privatization of Delta Rubber Company.

Governor Wike during a working visit to the Oil palm estate operated by Siat Nigeria Limited (Formerly known as RISONPALM), stated that his administration was impressed with the activities of Siat Nigeria Limited.

His words ” let me say that based on what we are shown, we will say that government is impressed with what you are doing.

” I have said it severally that the Delta Rubber has been there. It is moribund.  Nothing! And so since you have indicated interest , it is the interest of government to really see how we can privatize it and so that what you have here today will be replicated in the Delta Rubber estate.

“Because for years its been moribund, but nothing is going on” he reiterated.

He however expressed optimism that such privatization will provide the required employment opportunity for youths in the state. And further assured the management of Siat Nigeria Limited of his administration’s commitment to the prompt consideration of the privatization process.

On his part, the Managing Director of Siat, Mr. Felix Nwobuko said as major producers of palm oil, the partnership  would be very profitable to the state.

Recall that Siat Nigeria Limited is a Belgium company which took over the management of RISONPLAM for 35 years during the administration of former Rivers State Governor,  Rt.  Hon Chibuike Amaechi .
